Lawson Design Review Panel. Before the Highway widening, Council was concerned about lifting design standards for the new town centre. As part of this, a design review panel was established to set parameters and guidelines for the future developments. Nigel became a key member with his local development and historical knowledge, plus ability to crystallise new opportunities.

 

 

Lawson public toilets. The town of Lawson was being extensively redeveloped due to highway widening. We were engaged to run public consultation before designing new amenities that were to be local, creative and sustainable. We developed a new model of sustainable design excellence in materials, power and water recycling, referred to since by the local community as the 'Lawson Opera House'!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lawson Mechanics Institute. We've been engaged several times over the years to advise Council and the RTA on alterations and regulatory improvements to this Highway building. The front portico has now been shaved off, but the public hall behind continues with minor improvements.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  

  

Lawson Community /Neighbourhood Centre. ECOdesign initially used imagination to create a new home and meeting room within the existing building extended (2003). Later and separately, we were engaged to design the public amenities building (2009). Plus in between, we gave guidance on design possibilities for related building extensions should money be obtained.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  

 

Blue Mountains City Council foyer. Council agreed to integrating the then RTA office and service points within the Council building. ECOdesign was engaged for the interior design, documentation and fitout to suit both entities on a very tight timetable. Whilst the enlarged entry (shown here) wasn't built, the ground floor works were – within days of the ink drying on the drawings.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Springwood Community & Cultural Facilities. Council engaged ECOdesign and consultancy team to investigate, design and cost the feasibility across three sites their brief for new /refurbished community facilities (theatre, library, neighbourhood centre, etc). The commission established the two best options which were then put out to the community via workshops and brochures for feedback. Council subsequently obtained a federal government grant to proceed.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Marysville (Victoria) Performing Arts Centre feasibility. Nigel was extensively involved in assisting the replanning of Marysville (Victoria) after the 2009 bushfires. He was then commissioned to assess and report on the feasibility of a PAC as a focus for the rebuilding, socially, economically and environmentally.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hazelwood /Bungarabee Child Care Centres. Over several years ECOdesign was engaged to assess the feasibility of multiple options for a new or enlarged child care centre in the mid-Mountains. Integrating local and child-care knowledge with slope, solar, bushfire matters, disabled access, parking requirements and the like, we were able to efficiently eliminate most options, leaving just two for development. We were engaged to follow one through.
